Citizens’ Conference Dresden. Democracy in daily life together

Democracy thrives on exchange, discussion and mutual understanding of people.

March 28, 2015 International Congress Center Dresden

The Dresden Citizens’ Conference - “Democracy in everyday cooperation”- took place on March 28th from 2-7pm at the International Congress Center Dresden (ICD). The conference was initiated by Dresden – Place to be! e.V. and #WOD – Initiative weltoffenes Dresden, and supported by a wide Dresden citizen base as well as various Dresden organisations.

We don’t want to meet political disenchantment and disappointment simply with resentment, but rather with political and democratic engagement, with discussions and exchanges of view, with imagination and give-and-take, and look for solutions together.

In many rooms of the conference centre, citizens were able to get into discussions with experts, fellow citizens and politicians. The format covered podium discussions featuring prominent attendants, lectures, open discussions, workshops and theatre performances, live interviews and film screenings. This multi-vocal, city-wide discussion concluded with a gathering for an open-air concert at the Theaterplatz, starting at 7:30pm.
