“Meet New Friends” is an event series that brings people together.

This event format is the Cellex Foundation’s way of helping people get to know one another and start an intercultural dialogue between long-time Dresden residents and refugees. The idea was simple: Bring refugees, foreign visitors, and residents of Dresden into contact with each other by having them attend cultural and sporting events or go out to eat together. If any two people decide to spend time together to practice each other’s respective languages (a “tandem” group), they can receive support from the Cellex Foundation and the Dresden – Place to Be! association.

There is a monthly newsletter that keeps tandem groups and potential new members up to date on what’s going on in the city of Dresden. Many institutions – such as the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, the Saxon State and University Library Dresden, and the Literaturhaus Dresden – got involved with the “Meet New Friends” events; all year long, they offered events that brought people from around the world together.
